Is it really free?
Yes. Every feature is included for every team, with no limit on people, tasks or pages.
How is it paid for?
For now it isn't: it's a project we run for our own team and share. If that changes we'll tell you well in advance, and your data will always be exportable.
Can I run it myself?
Yes. Planbook is open source (AGPL-3.0). One docker compose command starts the whole thing: web, API, background jobs, live editing, database and a local mailbox.
What does self-hosting need?
A machine that runs Docker, PostgreSQL 17 and Redis (both included in the compose file), and optionally a Microsoft Entra app for work sign-in and an email provider such as Resend or any SMTP server.
Who owns the data?
You do. Export tasks as CSV, pages as Markdown and everything as JSON whenever you like. Deleting a team removes it after 30 days.
